A Leg Up Rescue is a nonprofit 501c3 organization dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats from life-threatening situations. All of these companion animals were either in danger of being euthanized in animal shelters, neglected or abused, or taken from the public (when space permits) so they are not bounced around to different homes or collected and sold to research labs by "bunchers."
We do not have a shelter or kennel. We place the pets in wonderful and compassionate foster homes so they may begin to develop exceptional house behavior.
Prior to being placed in responsible and loving homes, all of the animals receive comprehensive health examinations, spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccinations, flea/tick treatment, heartworm medication (if age appropriate), microchip and the chip is registered, just to name the routine treatment. If any additional medical issues need to be addressed we tend to those as well (hernias, surgeries, dental issues, etc.).
Our screening and placement procedures speak to a high standard, as it is our goal to ensure a quality match between dog and guardian. We perform a routine home visit prior to adoption, require adoption contracts and fees, and make it our policy to be a valuable resource for adopters for the life of the relationship. After all, adopting a dog is a lifelong commitment. We want to be there to help.
