Bring your Bling

Dear Friends,

With gold prices still on the rise, there's no better time to get cash for your stash. Please be our guest as we join with Leftovers Furniture in San Francisco - you can earn extra cash while helping the deserving and extra-special dogs in our program. The party details are below. We hope to see you there.

Sincerely,
A Leg Up Rescue

We Can't Wait to See You:
Leftovers Furniture
1243 Sutter Street, SF
February 6th, 2010
Starts at 7:00PM

Cash in your stash
We're not asking you to bring your treasured family heirlooms, but we all have mismatched, tangled, or worn out gold and silver jewelry. Don't let it linger any longer - cash it in and a portion of your profits help benefit A Leg Up. Gifts from your ex (especially those), ugly, inherited, new, used, broken flatware, gold and silver coins - yep, they'll take it all and you get top dollar on the spot! If you can't make it to the party, you can drop off your loot and still get a check! And if you want to bring the family heirlooms as well, we won't stop you!

Drop in, have a drink and a bite to eat, and leave with more money than you came with. Now THAT'S how we like to raise funds.

For those of you who live outside of San Francisco, there is plenty of parking around Leftovers, and there will be plenty of familiar faces inside with two and four legs!

What Can You Bring?

In addition to your appetite and desire to have a good time, you can bring:

Scrap Gold & Silver: rings, chains, necklaces, old mountings, broken & damaged jewelry of all kinds, dental gold, class rings

Poppy girl

Poppy is a lively, active, sweet, affectionate, social, friendly little dog. She is just about 9 lb and around 8-9 months old now (est at 4 months old in yearly September). Poppy loves to play with the resident dogs in her foster home, or curl up next to you on your lap. She loves to go for walks, racing around with the other dogs at the small dog play groups. She is a good eater, and doesn't mind sharing her space with the other dogs. She is crate trained and doggie door trained, and she has recently started a basic obedience class. Poppy is highly food motivated and easy and eager to be trained. If you are interested in adopting, please consider filling out the application.

Bentley

Bentley

Bentley is a 3 1/2 year old male Papillon who weighs about 12 pounds. He was surrendered by his owner for excessive barking, which they didn't know how to control. Since he has been at his foster home, his barking has decreased by 75%. Bentley is very smart and eager to please. He has learned the command “quiet.” He is housebroken and comes when called - unless there is another dog close to the back fence. Then he will stay out to bark at the interloper. Bentley also knows “sit,” “down,” “leave it,” “stay,” and “wait” (to allow you to go through a door first and give him the okay to follow).

Bentley is very sweet and develops a strong bond with his people. He gets along well with children and other dogs. He has tiny Chihuahua friends with whom he plays very gently and a dainty Papillon foster brother whom he lets think that he is the alpha. He has had no experience with cats.

His fur is luxurious and not prone to tangling, so he is a pleasure to pet and easy to groom. Bentley loves taking long walks. He is not a hyper dog, so if he doesn’t get a walk, he is content to get his exercise playing with his Papillon foster brother. He loves sleeping on his foster mom's bed, and he responds very well to positive reinforcement. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Bentley, please fill out the adoption application.

A Riddle:

A Riddle:

What do you get when you cross a house full of pitbulls with a bunch of aggressive boys? This little dog named Mac. Yes, Mac started out life as a puppy with a house full of boys who were not gentle with him, and he spent his days outside with a bunch of pitbulls who were used to "protect the property" of some people. As you might imagine, tiny little 5 pound Mac is delighted to be out of that household and in foster care surrounded by dogs his own size and humans who are respectful and compassionate. Mac isn't as scared by his past as you might expect. He is 2 years old but acts like a puppy! He is fine around cats, good with mature kids, and loves women. He is getting over his fear of men, and we think he's making huge strides for all he's been through. He sleeps quietly in his bed but would love to snuggle in bed with you if you'd let him. Mac also does great on a leash - he really enjoys his walks. And when he's not walking or snuggling, he loves to play with his stuffed animals. He's a super sweet, very affectionate little guy who is eager to be in a loving relationship with a human before Valentine's Day. Might he be your little love? If you are interested in fostering or adopting, please consider filling out the adoption application.

Tennis anyone?

Tennis anyone?

If you liked watching the Australian Open, then Snowflake is the dog for you! This little sweetie is so adorable, and every time her foster mom turns on tennis she's right there to snuggle up and watch. So far there aren't any signs of a clear favorite; as long as there's a blanket to stay warm in Snowflake is content to cheer for whomever. With such a rough background, it's no wonder she likes the comfort of a warm home and "down time" to relax. She arrived at the shelter very pregnant, and after showing signs of distress she was rushed to the doggie ER for an emergency C-section. Sadly, both of her puppies were underdeveloped and did not survive. But Snowflake is doing very well post-surgery and can't wait to find a home of her own. She is about 4 years old and only weighs 3 pounds, however she is very underweight. All of her ribs are showing. Her ideal weight should be about 5-5 1/2 pounds. She is eating a few meals a day - kibble mixed with a healthy dose of ground beef or shredded chicken. The fresh food seems to entice her to eat, and gosh, we feel like she deserves a little extra pampering and doting after all she's been through. She gets along well with other small dogs, is very quiet (we've maybe heard her bark once or twice?) and fine around mature kids. She is actually a perfect little lady! If you think you can commit to giving her some lap time (or time at the office with you?) and don't mind giving her some healthy meals, please consider filling out the application to adopt. Oh, and she could use a foster home, too! This will allow her foster care provider to take another needy and deserving dog from the shelter who is waiting for a break.
