Oliver

Meet little Oliver! He's a Chihuahua mix and is about 1-2 years old. He is about 5 pounds. He has been neutered and is up to date on all his shots. He is extremely good with any other dogs, from Chihuahuas to pit bulls. He even gets along with cats! A very social and extremely sweet little guy. He is not barky or yappy so he is well suited to apartment living. He will happily gnaw on a chew stick and not your furniture. He responds to his name but needs to learn other basic commands. He absolutely loves to curl up on your lap when you're watching TV. He is energetic and fun. He walks well on a leash and loves to go to the park. He is a bit shy with humans at first. After he warms up to you, he will follow you everywhere. He's really a great dog for anyone who's looking for a real "buddy."

Puppy LaVie

Puppy LaVie

LaVie had an unfortunate start in life. At a mere four months of age her family accidentally closed her little head in the car door. Not wanting to foot the bill for a puppy they thought they just "broke" they took her to the local vet to have her euthanized. Luckily, the vet felt she still had a chance and cared for her until she was clearly out of the woods. As another twist of fate would have it, the organizer of the SF Chihuahua Meetup is a client of this caring vet. The vet asked Kate and Tim to take care of LaVie and find her a new home. Along with tiny LaVie, Kate and Tim brought home a hefty bill for emergency care from the vet! We are hoping some compassionate readers will feel compelled to contribute toward LaVie's large vet bills. (All donations are tax deductible as allowed by law).

The story gets even better! LaVie shows no signs of permanent damage from the unfortunate event. Her skull was NOT fractured and her prognosis is great. She should continue to grow and develop into a normal, healthy dog (you can verify this with our vet prior to adoption). She looks and acts like a normal puppy. She is now about 4 1/2 months old (as of the beginning of June) and weighs only 4 pounds.

She is friendly, gets along great with her sibling foster dogs, and loves her new foster parents. LaVie will receive another comprehensive health exam before she moves to a new adoptive home, but she is very ready to have interested adopters get the ball rolling for adoption. If you would like to help LaVie by sending a donation, you may do so by using the "donate" link on this site. If you would like to adopt LaVie, please complete the adoption application. If you would like to meet LaVie in person, you may do so THIS WEEKEND on June 6th at Pine Lake Dog Park in Stern Grove from noon to 2pm (http://www.meetup.com/sfchihuahua/). LaVie and other dogs available for adoption will be there to greet you. Special thanks to Kate and Tim for fostering LaVie while she awaits a permanent home.

Brandy

Brandy

This active, affectionate little pixie is about 9 to 10 months old, and around 7.5 lb. Brandy came from the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA where the behavioral staff felt the shelter was too over stimulating for her. The staff worked hard to give Brandy some basic training and she is indeed very responsive to food-motivated training. Brandy knows many basic commands and is currently enrolled in a basic training class. Initially, Brandy was very mouthy (NOT snappy) with her foster family, though always affectionate and loves to cuddle, she clearly has some areas of her body that are very sensitive to touch, like she is super ticklish. But progress is being made. She is playful with her doggie foster siblings, but sometimes plays a bit rough. Brandy is crate trained and knows how to use the doggie door. She enjoys walks, but will get overly excited seeing people and other dogs on walks. Regardless, Brandy can be easily distracted with a treat and a sit command.

Hopefully much of her lively behavior will calm down over time and as she ages, but because of her high energy, it would be best that she goes to an adult only home who maybe has some experience with dogs, or even another dog slightly larger. Lively, active, athletic, soft deep red-medium length fur, Brandy will make for a wonderful companion for someone with an active lifestyle, but she comes in a small package.
